Joy-ful Drummer

Our Beloved Ginny- nurse, teacher, healer, student, artist, role model, dear friend to many -passed away on October 14th, 2005. Ginny Joy was diagnosed with lung cancer a few short months ago, and true to the person she was she found a way to still share her joy with others. Towards the end she reported that Love was the only thing that mattered and that she had finally chosen the God of Love over the god of fear.

Ginny was a fellow A.A. member, and both a student and teacher of A Course in Miracles. Her chosen career was that of a nurse. She became an artist late in life breaking into the art world with a burst of breathtaking paintings she called Energy Art Meditations©. When they hung her paintings in a New York gallery we teased her by saying us redneck internet friends were going to show up for the opening. She just laughed and said she wished we could all be there with her. Ginny's feet were planted firmly on earth, but her eyes were always on the stars. I will miss her famous "Heads Up!" posts which always revealed amazing images of the cosmic mysteries in our skies. Ginny's inner world was rich with brilliant colors and mystical music some of which she shared with us through her beautiful paintings which she created with tiny little dots of paint while listening to inspirational music. Thinking of her creating in this way always reminded me that our destination is a given. It's the process of our life that's the real ride. Within her deeply spiritual and giving nature lay a wicked sense of humour and a childlike joy that anticipated whatever was to come with each new day.

In my 46 years I had never met anyone so willing to break bread with anyone who asked. Sometimes even when they didn't. I learned so much about myself just by watching how Ginny treated others, and by how open and honest she was about herself. There was only one Ginny on earth, but there are many online friends who are feeling a deep sense of loss at her passing. And to anyone who thinks the love we feel for people online isn't 'real' it was so real to Ginny that she left her sister instructions to let her online friends know about her death. And it's so real to me that I've spent the past two days crying. I expect there'll be many more tears shed by others as days slowly pass and we all fully realize how much Ginny meant to each of us.

Unlike some of us who've been stricken by cancer Ginny saw the diagnosis as yet another opportunity for her to grow and open herself further to the eternal healing powers of love. She continued to share her revelations with us even when she was feeling very weak and sick. Her physical body may not have survived the cancer, but I know in my heart that she went back home to God fully healed in spirit.

Thank you Ginny for being my mentor, my inspiration, my friend.

- Called to be Friends -

".....so it is with friendship. It is not the easy words we say,
nor is it the gifts we give that make us friends.
Friendship invites us to share not only bread broken, but our brokenness.
Friendship invites us to share not only wine poured into glasses,
but our lives poured out.

Friendship challenges us, inspires us, confirms us, renews us,
and brings us comfort in a world of uncertainty.
Lucky are those who are called to be friends."
